7/2/2012· The spindle bearings on my lathe are oil lubried where as the mill they are grease so I''m also not sure if that means they run hotter or are preloaded differently. I did the preload on my mill last week, it seemed a bit hit and miss but there is little/no appreciable movement in the bearings and the lower bearing only runs warm after 1 hour, using all speeds.

Grease for vertical mill quil bearings? - The Home Machinist!

I don''t think heavy grease is a suitable lubricant for spindle bearings. Case in point, Millrite milling machines use #2 grease in their spindle bearings. Good Luck!

BRIDGEPORT SPINDLE BEARINGS - The Home Shop Machinist & …
2/12/2005· A bearing showing such a marked rolling path may be good for another ten thousand hours or it may die in twenty. The simplest solution is to replace it. When bearings get up to $300 a pair (spindle bearings can get up to $50,000 a pair) then one has to wrestle with his deamons.

10/3/2016· I would second Sphehro Phfhany''s comment: I have used cheap mill-drill machines in the past with only a taper arbor to hold the chuck into the drill quill. Invariably the vibrations from the mill cutter and the fact that the cutter itself is trying to pull ''down'' due to the flutes in the cutter, it will dislodge the entire chuck from the machine.

WARCO MAJOR QUILL REMOVAL | Model Engineer
8/8/2021· I would advise renewing both bearings, and use a common lithium high melting point grease. Be sure not to overpack with grease, leave at least 50% air within the quill. Hopefully, removing that label at the front of the head will allow fine tuning of the bearing preload.
